ultrasonographic alterations of pancreas in diabetic patients
نویسندگان
چکیده
background : pancreas as the insulin-producing gland is subjected to destruction and change in the diabetes-producing process. realtime sonography can assess the gland in 95% of cases and its accuracy in diagnosis of pancreatic disease matches that of ct-scan. the purpose of this study was to evaluate pancreatic diameter and echogenicity by sonography and to examine the correlation of these two factors with duration of disease in diabetes types i and ii in comparison with controls. methods : in two groups of 60 diabetic patients and healthy controls, diameter and echogenicity of pancreas was determined. results : diameter of pancreas was significantly different in diabetic patients and correlated with duration of disease. conclusions : in type i diabetes, decrease in the size of pancreas was more prevalent than in type ii diabetes and these changes become more prominent over time.

Intelligent blood glucose control in diabetic patients: design and simulation of an artificial pancreas
Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a common chronic disease with diverse complications. About 10% of the earth's population suffer from this disease. For smart control of the blood glucose in DM patients, an artificial pancreas was designed and simulated by a predictive sliding mode controller considering the time delay of insulin effect. Method: In this method, one of the time-delay glucos...
متن کاملUltrasonographic features of diabetic cheiroarthropathy.
Ultrasonography was used to measure flexor tendon sheath thickness in 14 insulin-dependent (IDDM) diabetics with diabetic cheiroarthropathy (DCA) and compared to 17 IDDM patients without DCA along with 10 healthy volunteers. Assessment was also made of the presence of systemic diabetic microvascular disease complications. A blinded visual 'eyeball' report on the ultrasound scans by a radiologis...
متن کاملFACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO ALTERATIONS IN THE LEVEL OF CONSCIOUSNESS IN PATIENTS WITH DIABETIC KETOACIDOSIS: ANALYSIS OF 189 CASES
The relation between serum osmolality, glucose, sodium, bicarbonate, arterial pH, BUN and level of consciousness was studied in 189 patients with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). There was much overlap between all laboratory values among various groups, even when there was a statistically significant difference. To find a better predictor, we defined a new factor as serum osmolality/arterial pH...
متن کاملNeuropathy-specific alterations in a Mexican population of diabetic patients.
BACKGROUND Neuropathy is one of the major complications of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Our first aim was to determine the clinical characteristics of a population of diabetic patients with different types of neuropathy. Our next goal was to characterize the cytokine profile (IL-6 and IL-10), nerve growth factor (NGF) and circulating cell-adhesion molecules in these patients. Finally, we aimed to ...
متن کاملUltrasonographic depiction of knee joint alterations in systemic lupus erythematosus.
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to assess inflammatory changes within the knee joint of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients by using ultrasound (US). Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients and healthy subjects (HS) were evaluated as controls. US findings were correlated with disease activity parameters. METHODS Twenty-six SLE patients were enrolled in the study, 25 RA patients and 15 ...
